Grandma is aging and in need of full time care at 95 yrs. w/signs of dementia…She has approximately 35,000 in cash, rents apartment and does not own a car. What should we do to help her begin with assisted living / medicaid help? What do we do first? Next…. We are her grandchildren, our parent is terminally ill in hospital. Our plate is full…can anyone give professional advice or information from experience? Praying for guidance…
We don’t know how the process works for help with housing…do you pay for assisted living on your own until funds deplete? We want to do what is morally right — not hide funds, etc.
I have a simular problem with my mom…All they can get at this point is a nursing home or people to come over and do light housework. contact the county you live in mental health and have a social worker assigned. Around july the legistation is changing for assited living, don’t know how it will play out as of yet. If you can hide her assest for the state will take anything over 1500. And her is the big kicker,,,all your family when get strange about the money stuff and possesions so be prepaired for that as well.
