Breaking an apartment lease for security reasons?
I just recently moved into a townhouse about 4 months ago in Bath,PA. Our lease is for 1 year, but none of my family feels comfortable in our neighborhood. There are constantly cops going down our street, because of fights going on, stabbings, and i know there was a woman on our street that was tied up and raped recently in her own house. My husband and I are at work all day till about 5:30pm and we are feared for my mother-in-law and son. She lives with us and stays at home all day with our 4 month old , and she is always scared and fearful that something will happen. We have not been living comfortably since we moved in. I was wondering if there is anything i can do to get out of this house. I have heard that if some people break their lease it is possible for the realtor to come after you for money. Im stuck on what to do and was hoping someone would be able to further assist me with our situation.
No, none of this has anything to do with your lease. You can only legally break the lease if the landlord breached it and a judge agrees with you. There is no breach here, you should have made sure the neighborhood was acceptable to you prior to signing the lease.
