Assisted Living elderly homes
How do I protect my elderly mother’s income from being depleted by Assisted Living/Nursing Home payments?

She gets SS, Retirement, Annuities. I would like to make sure it doesn’t all go for payments to the nursing home.

Since your mother needs nursing home care and she has the funds to pay for it, why would you not want to pay for her care? Is it that you want her money after her death? I don’t mean to sound unfeeling, but really, why would you not think your mother’s funds should be used to pay for her care? Who do you think should pay for her care?

Michelle Singletary | Time for serious talk with elderly parents
Before my grandfather died of cancer, I helped my grandmother care for him in their home. You’d think it would be easy to talk to another adult about his care. But it’s often not easy to get someone who has been living independently to open up, especially about finances.
